Ron Holland II diary: ‘Detroit, you’re getting someone who’s not going to give up on y’all ever’
G League Ignite forward talks about getting drafted by the Pistons, meeting one of his NBA idols in New York and more
G League Ignite forward Ron Holland II is the latest player sharing insight into his life on and off the court through a monthly video diary with Andscape.
Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal participated in a monthly video and diary this season as well. NBA players Draymond Green, Vince Carter, Trae Young, CJ McCollum, Fred VanVleet, De’Aaron Fox, Cade Cunningham, James Wiseman and Josh Jackson have participated in previous diaries.
In the final episode of his season-long video diary with Andscape, Holland gave a front-row seat to the NBA draft experience, talking about his expectations, getting fashion assistance from his sister, meeting one of his idols, and being selected in the top 5 by the Detroit Pistons.
“I promise you nobody knew I was fixing to go [No.] 5 when it came to my table,” Holland said. We were looking around like, ‘Oh, he’s [G League Ignite forward Matas Buzelis] about to go here. We were thinking it was Matas. My mom had said – I heard her exact words – ‘He gonna go to Detroit.’ It was like she just felt it. It was weird, like a laughing matter, and we’d just seen the huge camera come to my face and it was there.
“I felt the tapping behind my back of my agents and they told me it was me. It was a surreal moment.”
